perhaps I just don't get it...

I saw Matrix Unloaded tonight and umm....I wasn't all that impressed.
Basically it was just like the first one. Oh yeah, except not as good. Like the first one was "let's write this cracked out story that will mess with people's mind and be super-cool!" And the second one was like "OK, now let's fit every cliche and theme you'd find in every other popular movie into this." Even the fighting scenes and all weren't as cool. They weren't about what I guess I'd called 'extreme reality', things like slowing time to jump across buildings or thinking if one had enough momentum they could run sideways on walls. Nah, it was more like complete fantsy, flying and shit.
Truth is, I don't mind that I watched it or anything, and while I was getting kind of bored toward the end, it was MOSTLY entertaining. I just would have rather waited. I didn't really need to give them my $8.00 tonight (eh...OK, so it was more like my $5.00 and Scott's $3.00 :P) I could've waited a couple years and given them my $1.00 to get it off the standard shelf at the video store and not felt like I was missing out or anything.
Maybe I'm just disappointed because we watched the first movie the other night and there is no scene anywhere NEAR as cool in the new movie as where Keanu Reeves - who I'm not a big fan of, but this scene could have made pre-pubescent Anthony Michael Hall look sexy! - is walking at you firing a gun in each hand until it runs out of ammo so he just tosses them aside and grabs two more. Holy hot! (though I only go for the guns and shooting and all in movies a little left of reality and video games.)
I think I have a career in writing movie reviews.
